What is hypnosis? Very simply hypnosis is a state of relaxation and focus, along with a state of heightened awareness induced by suggestion from the hypnotist. This allows the hypnotist to speak directly to the client's sub conscious mind. What is Hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes, such as to stop smoking or lose weight etc. This allows the hypnotherapist to introduce carefully worded suggestions directly to the client's sub conscious mind, that are in line with the client's objectives. Hypnotherapy can be used for so many beneficial purposes that the list is practically endless. Hypnotherapy is suitable for all the conditions below and more......

Common Myths About Hypnosis Myth No:1 In hypnosis I will be totally under the control of the hypnotist, they can make me say, do or reveal things I don't want to, I'll have no control. This is probably the biggest fear for anyone coming to hypnosis or hypnotherapy for the first time. This fear is completely understandable as most people's beliefs come from having seen stage hypnotists appearing to have this complete control over a person. You'll be pleased and relieved to hear that hypnotists do not possess such “mysterious powers”, and you will never do, say or reveal anything that you wouldn't do in a normal awakened state. If a suggestion were made in hypnosis that goes against your personal moral code then you would naturally come out of trance or your subconscious mind would completely dismiss the suggestion. Myth No:2 I might get stuck in a hypnotic trance state and not be able to come back. The hypnotic trance state is a very natural state of relaxation that we all experience naturally in our day to day lives. If you've ever found yourself day dreaming and are oblivious to what's going on around you, that's a hypnotic trance state. Now, how easy is it to bring yourself out of a day dream?. Pretty easy and quick and you couldn't get stuck there. It's exactly the same with hypnosis, it's not possible to get stuck in a trance and not come back. Myth No:3 I can't be hypnotised. Technically speaking if a person is able to go to sleep and wake up, then they have experienced a natural trace state as part of that process. During that period between being awake and asleep or asleep and awake, the brain waves change and pass through the alpha, theta and delta states. This same process of moving through the alpha, theta and delta brain wave states is used to induce a hypnotic trance state. So with the correct techniques and guidance, the hypnotherapist can induce the relaxation levels required for a client to enter a sufficiently deep level of trace to experience hypnosis. This can be achieved with at least 85% of people. The exceptions to this may be people using drugs or certain medication that impedes the ability to stay focused and concentrate. Any possible factors that could prevent the client entering trance are always discussed during the free consultation that take place prior to the first session. Myth No:4 I didn't go under, I didn't feel hypnotised This is something that is often heard when hypnosis is spoken about, the reason being that most people believe that during hypnosis or hypnotherapy they'll be in an unconscious or sleep state. The majority of people in hypnotic trance describe the trance state as feeling very lazy and relaxed, whilst also being aware of what's going on around them. Often the body feels heavy or sometimes lighter, almost as if the body has gone to sleep but the mind is still awake and aware. It’s usual to be aware of what the hypnotherapist is saying the whole time, or your mind may wander and come back to the words occasionally which is fine. Everyone experiences trance in their own way, there is not right or wrong way, only the way that is right for you. Myth No:5 I'll just be hypnotised and the problem will be gone!! There is no denying that hypnosis can work very quickly and is wonderfully effective, for instance smoking can be dealt with in a single session. However, hypnosis requires the willingness of the client for it to be effective, and If the client's motivation is too low then it's possible that the hypnosis may not work for them. When a client comes with the willingness and desire to engage fully in the process then there is an extremely high likelihood they will achieve their outcome using hypnotherapy. No hypnotherapist can give a 100% guarantee of a result, what I can guarantee is that I will use everyone of my skills to help you reach your desired goal. |
